Turning Toward Stillness explores the exhausting volume of anxiety, panic, and mania—the emotional noise that can feel impossible to escape. The circular forms throughout the piece act as dials, symbolic attempts to turn the noise down, regain balance, and find moments of stillness.

Inspired by the clematis-covered trellis at the garden entrance, the work honors the quiet care, stability, and confidence found through plants, mentorship, and returning growth.

A Grandmother’s Prayer reflects the steadfast love and faith of my grandmother, Lucille Bango — Grandma Lucy — my safe place in a world that often felt uncertain. When mental illness changed how others responded to me, her love never did. Through mania, depression, and anxiety, she would simply say, “Just come to me. I’ll take care of you.”

Long before many of the hardest seasons of my life, those spaces offered gentleness, purpose, and belonging. Though the gears continue turning, they feel softer here—representing the lasting memory of kindness and the realization that even after chaos, soft places still exist.

The bright but unsettled colors mirror the confusion of trying to survive while unsure whether I was healing or unraveling.
